U.S. Education Secretary John King announced the 329 winners Wednesday (Sept. 28). Clancy Maggiore Elementary was honored in particular for the success of its students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The merged school opened only four years ago and last year 29 percent of its students were learning English. One of only six schools in Louisiana to receive the honor this year, Clancy Maggiore Elementary is being awarded with Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing Schools. The Blue Ribbon Schools program honors schools that are either high-performing or have closed achievement gaps. These schools demonstrate that all students can achieve at high levels. Clancy Maggiore will be honored November 7-8 during an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C., where Clancy and the other winning schools will each receive an engraved plaque and flag signifying its status as a 2016 Blue Ribbon School.
More than 7,500 of schools across the country have been presented with this coveted award. The National Blue Ribbon School award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content. The National Blue Ribbon School flag gracing an entry or flying overhead is a widely recognized symbol of exemplary teaching and learning.
As we always say, Clancy Maggiore kids are S.M.A.R.T!
